Alexandria lawyer Dee Drell, a nominee for U.S. district judge for the Western District of Louisiana, testified Thursday before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
Drell did not want to prognosticate how his testimony went or guess when the committee will vote on the nominees. Committee members "essentially asked all of us how a judge should view his role," he said, especially in response to legislation. Drell said he told committee members he believes judges should interpret and not make the law. The nominee said he was impressed by the senatorial proceedings because the "whole process had a lot of integrity. Everybody has been very fair.
They were all just great." Drell and his wife were expected to return today to Alexandria. C.
