This morning's "Real-Time User Experience" panel at #SmarterFasterPayments2024 was insightful! Led by Cheryl Gurz (The Clearing House), it featured experts on core RTP use cases: Stacy Rosenthal (PayPal), Rob Nardelli (DailyPay, Inc.), and Karen Nielsen (Zions Bank).Rob's story highlighted RTP's impact. We already know that 64% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, but he spelled out a powerful story of the mom with the new baby who is making an emergency run to the grocery store to get diapers, baby formula and frozen dinner. In queue for grocery and not having funds available to pay for them, she pulls up her @Daily Pay Application on her phone, see she has funds for her job that she would normally pay out the next Friday, clicks the button in her wallet and has the funds in her account instantly and isnow able to pay with her debit card at POS.Currently, 83% of RTP transactions are business-initiated, 17% consumer-initiated (Zelle, etc.). B2B growth is expected, with use cases including:. Car dealerships/titles. Cash concentration (ex. one business executed 23 x $1MM payments to account). Real estate transactions (loan payment, title payments, realtor payments). Property management. Utility paymentsFinancial institutions, consider opportunities to replace checks, smaller loans, and streamline internal processes with RTP.#payments2024 #instantpayments #RTP #fednow #fintech #realestate #earnedwageaccess #bankinginnovation #instantpaymentsmaven #thefutureisnow

Started today’s #smarterfasterpayments session with Suneel Gupta giving us inspiration and challenged us to play “The Game of Now”. Treat buyers like builders- make customers and colleagues part of the solution - fall in love with the problem not the solution, lead with curiosity, catch people doing things right, bring the energy to the room that you want people leaving with. Practice rhythmic renewal - don’t treat rest as a reward, take breaks throughout the day to keep energy high and ideas flowing- start meetings at 5 minutes after hour to give yourself that small break 55:5 model. Experiment to find what brings you rest - meditation, walks, ukulele, etc, keep an energy diary and do more of what brings you energy . The Game of Now - you will never be “ready”, you have 100% of your life remaining, take action nowWhat dreams have you been waiting for the right moment to pursue?#payments2024 #thegameofnow #youareready #instantpaymentsmaven #thefutureisnow

I enjoyed the insights shared during the "Need for Speed" session at #SmarterFasterPayments2024! Huge thanks to Michelle Ziolkowski and Chris Scott from Truist and Brandon Shapiro from Bridgehaul Logistics Inc for their practical perspectives.Key Takeaways:* Customers WILL pay for faster access to funds. Think Venmo, PayPal, and the rising trend of merchants adding surcharges for credit card payments.* Design simple, intuitive payment experiences. Expect occasional errors or reversals, and build processes to handle them smoothly. (I loved Michelle's relatable Pop-Tarts story!)* APIs, ERP integration, and ISO20022's rich data hold challenges and opportunities for RTP. Chris shed light on these complexities. My Highlight: Brandon's use cases in the trucking industry were eye-opening. Real-time payments are revolutionizing how truckers manage cash flow and get paid quickly, offering options like ACH, RTP, or fuel cards. BridgeHaul's transparency model empowers drivers with choices. What is your favorite use case for instant payments?#payments2024 #instantpayments #usecases #instantlaymentsmaven #thefutureisnow

FAQs

What is the difference between real-time payments and instant payments? ›

Are they the same as instant payments? The terms “instant” and “real-time” can both be used to describe electronic payment networks that move money electronically between banks, 24/7/365. One such network is the RTP® network, from the Clearing House.

What is the difference between instant payment and faster payment? ›

Summary From an end user's perspective, many types of payments can be “faster” in that funds appear to move from the sender to the receiver in near real-time, but to be considered an Instant Payment, the payer and payee's FIs need to be able to settle that payment on a real-time basis as well.

What is the meaning of instant payment? ›

Instant payments are credit transfers that make funds available in a payee's account within ten seconds of a payment order being made.

What is pay a person in real-time? ›

A Pay a Person real-time payment is a delivery option that allows your contact to receive payment instantly to their debit card.

Do all banks accept RTP? ›

The RTP network is open to all federally insured U.S. depository institutions.

How long does instant payment last? ›

Instant payments allow you to clear payments to banks, that subscribe to this service, within 60 minutes at an extra cost. To make your payment an Instant Payment, ensure that 'Instant Pay' is activated when capturing the payment.

What banks do not use FedNow? ›

Bank of America, Citigroup, PNC and Capital One Financial, all among the nation's 10 largest banks, still haven't signed on to FedNow, according to the Fed's latest list of participants. FedNow launched last July, promising to speed up transactions for consumers and companies.

Are FedNow payments irrevocable? ›

In contrast, an instant payment is completed in a matter of seconds, and because it is irrevocable, the payer cannot cancel the transaction. In addition, the payee can withdraw the funds immediately.

Are Faster Payments irrevocable? ›

And because of this, the payment is, by its nature, also irrevocable, meaning it cannot be reversed by the payer or the payer's financial institution (FI) after it is sent.

What is the quickest bank transfer method? ›

Wire transfers and P2P payments tend to be the fastest methods, but you have little recourse for getting your money back once the funds are sent. Cashier's checks are a preferred method for transferring large sums of money but can get lost or damaged.

What is PayPal instant? ›

PayPal's Instant Transfer feature eliminates the typical payments delay, letting you make instant transfers of your customers' PayPal payments directly to your linked bank account(s).

How to send money immediately? ›

You can send money without a fee by using P2P payment apps such as Cash App, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo and Zelle. Note that you may have to pay a fee if you fund your transfer with a credit card, and the recipient may have to pay a fee if they choose to receive the money instantly in their bank account or debit card.

What is real-time payout? ›

Real-time payments are instant payments that are processed immediately and continuously, 24/7. Unlike traditional payment systems, which can take hours or even days to complete transactions, RTP systems immediately transfer funds from one bank account to another.

What is the person that pays called? ›

Current examples of RTP networks include The RTP® Network from The Clearing House (TCH) in the U.S., UPI in India, Faster Payments in the UK, and PIX in Brazil.

Is immediate payment the same as instant payment? ›

Immediate payments, also known as real-time payments or instant payments, are electronic transfers of funds that are completed almost instantly.

Is Zelle considered RTP? ›
