The title says it all. How would Space Marines from 40k react to Spartans from Halo.

Depends heavily on the Chapter, and which generation of Spartans they might meet.

Derision, probably some minor amusem*nt and the odd "Noble but flawed attempts at fighting beyond human level".

Based on what I know on Warhammer?

This might be the most likely accurate answer.

And this seems to be more fan biased.

Some chapters think humanity is outright scum and meatshields, others take the concept of being geneforged as a religious experience. Seeing another group attempt it and (comparatively) do a sh*tty job is going to be....divisive.

So you changed your answer to "Depending on which Space Marines, and which Spartans."

Also, I'm fairly sure that except for the dumbasses in their chapters, and even depending on what feats you go with the Marines (Because they have as many low end feats as high end from what I can recall.)

They'd probably understand that "This is the best they can do right now."

Depends on the chapter. And the Spartans. And the individual space marine. If they can work alongside Skitarii, abhumans or psykers I doubt they'll have any issues with Spartans.

I think that the more dickish and arrogant chapters like the Marines Malevolent would look down upon Spartans for being inferior to them and cheap knockoffs.

They'd see their lesser cousins fighting xeno scum and aid them until they learn everyone in Halo are heathens and then CRUSADE

"Pfft... manlets, when will they learn"

It woukd be strange for them to meet men under the height of their nipples, the lack of pauldrons would be disturbing as well

You do realise that the majority of Astartes explicitly deny the divinity of the Emperor, yes?

I don't think they'd be particularly shocked or scornful, given that there are gene-modded soldiers similar to Spartans in the Imperial Guard in WH40K canon. I'm thinking something along the lines of "Eh, a good effort for not having access to the Emperor's DNA".

Like muscle-men looking at wimps in a gym.

''Bro, do you even purge?''

Edit: Even the scouts of the Marines Malevolent, the prissy asshole marines.

Spartans vary in height; generally, for the S-IIs, running to about 6' 6" to a little over 7'. Astartes vary also, but in a broader range; the lowest end is about 6' or so (it's noted that Maximmion Voss, an unusually short Imperial Fist, is not much taller than most men, and overtopped by some), with the highest end running to more than 9' tall (for massive examples like Seydon of the Iron Snakes, Herculon Praetor of the Salamanders, Arjac Rockfist of the Vlka Fenryka, and so on).

Ah, so another case of Warhammer fans using the biggest example.

No, it's just hard for the human mind to imagine some guys who we usually never see around other humans being as tall as guys who routinely go toe-to-toe with huge-ass space orcs and weaboo battlesuits.

Keep in mind that due to my limited resources and choices of spending, I have limited knowledge of Halo. I've only read a bit of a novel, watched the Fall of Reach movie, and played one, or maybe, two, of those spinoff games on Steam, because 343 won't release Halo onto Steam.

Well, I remember that space marines do respect baseline human legends who have proven their prowess in battle, like Ciaphas Cain, so if the space marines in question know of the feats of the Spartans they might be suitably impressed.

It depends who we're talking about. Chapters like the Black Templars, Red Scorpions, Marines Malevolent, and the Minotaurs wouldn't give a sh*t about the average joe, but chapters like the Salamanders or Lamenters most likely would. Can't say where chapters like the Blood Ravens or Ultramarines would fit in, though.

In terms of physical prowess they'd probably be like "Ok so you're Tempestus Scions then?"

In terms of discipline and willpower they'd probably consider the Spartans respectable [if inferior] but this as Captain Orsai said depends heavily upon the chapter as some would be rather hostile to the Spartans.

On the other hand the IoM does fairly regularly apply cybernetic and genetic enhancements/therapies to many of their people so the less fanatical Chapters would just shrug.

The Primaris Marines are a complete unknown as they apparently have a lot less of the religious zeal or institutional prejudices that the regular SMs have had millennia to build up. Though most chapters aren't religious.

The Ultramarines would respect them.

I say this because the Ultramar Defence Auxillia distinguished itself highly during the first Tyrannic War, and all other major conflicts/existential threats to the worlds of Ultramar.

So if they can find it in their hearts to respect a PDF branch (a highly competent and battle-hardened one, but still a PDF), they'll be able to respect the Spartans. Especially the IIs and IIIs.

As for the Blood Ravens I'm not sure. My only experience of their character as a chapter and as individuals follows from the Dawn of War games.

Based on that - indifference bordering on the positive. A kind of matter-of-fact "they are soldiers of humanity, honoured be their sacrifices", but not really have any emotion in it. Actually I would expect that to be the reaction of 90% of all Space Marines tbh, they're not exactly the most emotional of beings. How Would Space Marines React To Spartans (24)

Do you accept the holy God Emperor as your one and only god or other object of veneration? If yes, good on you Scout Marine, if not you are a traitor to be purged like the rest.

I'd love to see Gulliman meeting John-117, he'd probably say, "Truly, if you were any better, you would be an Astartes."
